CHAPARRAL SONG

By Sam Solomon.

i can’t stop leaning on you like a hug, jerked
on its foundation – i am become a balance beam.
i hate my love-me pants and words –
they pivot and sidestep the pine plank – mine.

i’ve measured them from night to night:
tiny ponds of splooge gleam in hawk-stripped light.
